North Queensland’s leading try-scorer in the NYC under-20s competition, outside back Javid Bowen, has signed a three-year contract to join the Cowboys’ NRL squad.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding 2013 season, crossing for 13 tries in 10 matches and developing into a strong defensive force out wide for the Cowboys.

He has now played 22 NYC games and scored 18 tries for North Queensland.

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have extended the contracts of three members of their NRL squad and rewarded Queensland Junior Origin back Zac Santo with his first senior contract.

Ethan Lowe, who made his NRL debut against the Gold Coast Titans earlier this season, has signed a new two-year deal, as has Scott Bolton who recently brought up a century of appearances for the Cowboys.

Glenn Hall has had his contract extended to the end of the 2014 season after playing 65 top-grade games since making his North Queensland debut at the start of 2011.

Santo, who was the Cowboys' NYC Player of the Year last year, has joined Javid Bowen in gaining a promotion from the under-20s to the NRL squad next season.

He has signed on for 2014 and 2015.

North Queensland star Matt Bowen's uncertain NRL future has become more intriguing after the club elevated rising local fullback Zac Santo on a two-year deal on Monday.

Contract talks with the club were put on hold last week due to the axing of coach Neil Henry for 2014, but are set to resume this weekend. While he's also been mentioned as a target for rival clubs, Bowen indicated on Monday that his body would determine his future - a decision that could spark a tussle for his No.1 jumper.

Former Cowboy of the Year Ash Graham will have wrist reconstructive surgery next week, ending his chances of a return to the playing field in the NRL.

The winger confirmed today he had played his last match for North Queensland after deciding to retire from rugby league following a 202-game career with the Cowboys and Parramatta.

He has played 161 top-grade matches for North Queensland, the fifth highest figure in the club’s history, and won the Paul Bowman Medal as the club’s Player of the Year in 2011.

The 29-year-old was the equal top try-scorer in the NRL last year and finishes his career with 102 tries.

Graham initially suffered his wrist injury in the pre-season trial match against the Gold Coast Titans in Mackay in February and the ligament damage has worsened with time, forcing him to make the decision to have surgery.
The usual recovery time following the operation is around six months.

He has also continued to battle with chronic ankle arthritis, requiring him to be on a modified training program.

The combination of the injuries has restricted him to 14 matches in his final year.

North Queensland have confirmed the signing of St George Illawarra youngster Cameron King on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old signed on with the Cowboys on Wednesday and will join his new teammates at pre-season training in November.

King is the second new arrival at the Cowboys in as many weeks with former Penrith fullback Lachlan Coote completing his move north last week.

    - Good buy !

Toyota Cowboys back-rower Tariq Sims will miss the rest of the NRL finals series after today lodging an early guilty plea on a grade three shoulder charge offence.

Sims will be suspended for five matches after incurring 525 penalty points.

So - he will leave the Club without playing another game.

COWBOYS coach Paul Green will receive a $1 million contract extension as the club moves to stave off poaching threats for one of the code’s hottest prospects.

North Queensland have begun talks on an extended deal that could see Green tied to the Townsville club until the end of 2017.

The 42-year-old is off contract next season, but North Queensland bosses want Green locked in after he steered the club to the finals last season in his debut year as an NRL head coach.

    ... I guess he's gone ... :)

Premiership-winning Melbourne Storm outside back Justin O’Neill has signed a two-year contract with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, boosting the club’s backline strength ahead of the 2015 NRL season.
Originally a junior with Brothers in Townsville, the 23-year-old will join his new teammates for the start of the second stage of pre-season training after the Christmas-New Year break.
O’Neill made his debut for the Storm midway through the 2010 season and played 67 NRL matches for the club, scoring 34 tries.

More injuries. Pretty soon some sides will be struggling to field a full team. Greenberg and Grant need to start asking themselves and club Ceo's whats happened to the game to cause so many injuries so early in the season.
