Has Australia spent too much money on certain sports? Have our athletes egos affected their performance? Are we just an average country (Top 15)?

I'll give a full wrap the day after the closing ceremony.

We should really look at some of these ego based kids. Set the bar - if they don't meet it they don't go.

We (the tax payer) have spent a fortune on swimming and other sports and really get nothing back. Why ?

Now we see the multi millionaires in footie, golf, tennis all coming in. Its a joke.

Yes, I read an article that Swimming, Hockey will all be reviewed. Based on results, Sailing should get a better deal.

Rio is the entertainment centre that keeps on giving.
You now have about 10 aussies pinched for entering the Boomers game with falsified credentials.
Kitty says they knew their creds were tampered with but says they are not guilty or "not their fault" or some other verbage.
She goes on to say its been "traditional " to tamper with your access credentials.
Basically its a case of so what if someone else stuck the new access sticker onto the athletes credentials the point is they knew and then used them.
Now they have been fined AU $4,100 and guess who pays the fines? .... the AOC which translates to the aussie taxpayer.

Perhaps we should have a rule - a set rule - that they all know !

NO-MATTER WHAT - IF YOU GET ARRESTED AND FOUND GUILTY YOU WILL NOT GO ON ANOTHER GAMES TEAM !

    Sounds like a good option
    They could also look at
    1. Holding their trials a LOT closer to the actual games so athletes don't have to peak early and retain the fitness for too long
    2. Cutting costs by sending home all athletes who bomb out in the first week which also reduces the propensity to get into trouble.

Because Kitty doesn't think knowingly using falsified documents is the athletes fault you can bet they will be allowed to march at the closing ceremony to. She backed down over the McKeon issue when she should have stuck to her decision. After all she missed a live interview with Koshy and didn't return to the village to after 10.30am the next day.
It really is about time it was re enforced representing your country is a privilege that doesn't just include your own event.
The AOC needs to get its own azz covering house in order as well as it has been ruling like it has a divine right for many years.
You only have to look at the way it shunned and hung Peter Norman out to dry when his 200 metre times from 1968 would still have got him a medal in 2000 not to mention poor housekeeping and results in London.

It is one of a few things that need to done.
One thing that does not need to be done is Chiller being made scapegoat for poor AOC management, poor results along with poor behaviour by athletes who are old enough to know better

I think Australia had nearly 500 in this Olympics - Sydney Games they had a few more. France, Italy & few other countries had less competitors & they collected more medals. Make harder to get in the Olympics and what ALX22 and you said, the swimming trials 3-4 weeks before the games. If the family can't get accommodation, well, fork out more money or watch it on TV.

I think they should apply the trials just before any games competition across all sports. Its to big an ask for them to retain peak fitness for more than a few weeks at a time
One of the coaches for track and field even gave Mz Jennecke a bake for being
    1. not as fit as she had been
    2. seemed to have a stated interest more for her University and coke sponsorship
    3. stating her hurdling was not her main or top priority.
It seems she feels she can get government funding and concentrate on other others things like her pre race jiggling.
Not to pick on her alone as this attitude (not on the jiggling) would also apply to a lot of other athletes

Agree - we are a small country. USA has about 350m people - we have 25m.

They are 14 times bigger than us !

Did they have 7000 competitors ?

Probably about the same as us.

Did they win 14 times more medals ?

How did we go per capita ?

For future games, the number of athletes should be around the 250-300 mark.

So does that mean the Russian athletes can compete but no attendance from Russian winter Olympic officials?
