His father is a Roosters legend and now the Bondi-based club is trying to steal Jackson Hastings from under the nose of St George Illawarra. Kevin "Horrie" Hastings lives in Florida these days, but his delight was obvious when word filtered through about the interest NRL clubs are showing in his son, including his former team the Roosters.

Young Jackson, who made his Holden Cup debut for the Dragons against Manly on Monday night - scoring a try and kicking five goals - is a chip off the old block.

I love the old way to get your porn name - was it ... your first pets name and your first street. So it could be Rover Long.

St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition centre Charlie Runciman has rallied his team mates to dig deep ahead of the match against the Penrith Panthers at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah on Saturday. The Young Dragons were defeated 34-20 by the Parramatta Eels in their previous run-out despite a strong showing on the field in the first half. Runciman admits that the team will need to continue working on their second-half discipline if they are to maintain momentum towards a top eighth finish and it must start now. “We played well and that was one of our goals heading out there last weekend,” said Runciman.

The St George Illawarra Dragons National Youth Competition team secured a 44-22 victory over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday. The Young Dragons returned to winning ways with Jackson Hastings bagging a neat double on the hour mark. Head Coach Justin Holbrook made the single change to the line-up announced in midweek following hooker Craig Garvey’s promotion to the Illawarra Cutters for their NSW Cup clash against the Auckland Vulcans. This allowed Logan Harris to slot in to the raking role and he replied in fashion for the show of confidence with the opening try in the 17th minute.

The lead didn’t last long with Bulldogs prop Herman Ese’ese scoring a brace of tries in the 24th and 28th minutes.

Teammates Patrick Templeman and David Minute both converted each of the forward’s tries. Templeman successful kicked one of his two attempts at the tee. The Dragons rallied and reclaimed the lead nearing the end of half time through the efforts of centre Charly Runciman (36’) and five-eighth Drew Hutchinson (38’). Dragons fullback Jackson Hastings converted all the goals throughout the stanza to gift the visitors with an 18-12 lead. Dragons second-rower Wesley Lolo was quickest to strike five minutes in to the second period of play to extend the visitors’ lead. However, the hosts relied in quick unison with both Templeman (48’) and Dujean Manuel-Liolevave (55’) both notching tries of their own.

Hastings however took matters into his own hands and scored two blistering tries as the hand struck the hour mark.

Centre Hayden Anderson got his name on the score sheet in the 65th minute of play before winger Kayne Brennan did likewise four minutes from time.

Hastings also converted three of his five goal attempts during the half to help make it 44-22 at fulltime.

St George Illawarra Dragons 44 defeated the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 22.

St George Illawarra Dragons 44. Tries: Hasting (2), Harris, Runciman, Hutchinson, W Lolo, Carpenter Brennan. Goals: Hastings (5/8).

    Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 22. Tries: Ese’ese (2), Templeman, Manuel-Liolevave Goals: Templeman (2/3), Minute (1/1).

I hope they do not let Hastings get picked up by another club. Why can't they select young Runciman while Cooper is out injured?
