CRONULLA are bracing for another blow to their balance books - this time in the form of a six-figure NRL salary cap breach. Financially crippled thanks to legal fees and sponsor trepidation from the ASADA investigation, the Sharks will be fined as a result of the previous administration's failure to properly declare player payments to salary cap auditor Ian Schubert last year. We've heard the fine could be as much as $200,000, although the NRL would not confirm a figure when contacted yesterday.

It's believed the club - and others that have transgressed - will be sent the breach notice as soon as next week.

Observers at Sharks training on Thursday could have been forgiven for thinking that Andrew Fifita had escaped from NSW Origin camp and was back doing a little extra training with his club teammates at Sharks Stadium.

Running around training paddock was a player bearing a remarkable resemblance, however when revealed it was Andrew’s twin brother David, the puzzle fell perfectly into place.

Returning home after a stint in France, David Fifita has signed on to play out the 2013 season with the Sharks.

Blake Ayshford could become the latest Tiger to defect to Cronulla in a move that could help the joint-venture club retain young gun Tim Simona.

Ayshford is contracted to Wests Tigers for next season but has been granted a chance to test his value on the open market.

That window closes at the end of the week and it's understood the Sharks are one of three Sydney clubs interested in him. The Sharks have already poached Bryce Gibbs, Andrew Fifita, Beau Ryan, Chris Heighington, Dean Collis and John Morris from the Tigers in recent years.

    Tiger-Sharks

The Sharks announce that they have agreed to terms with Wests Tigers centre Blake Ayshford for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Ayshford, who debuted in the NRL back in 2009 and has played 99 games in the top grade, adds to the depth and talent in the Sharks backline for next season.

The 25-year-old Ayshford has played in 11 matches this year and was involved in 23 of the Tigers 24 NRL games in 2012. He has scored a total of 33 tries in those 99 NRL appearances.

In a boost to the Sharks forward depth hard hitting front rower Sam Tagataese has agreed to a new two year contact with the Cronulla club.

In arguably the most consistent form of his career, Tagataese has become a mainstay of the forward pack in 2013 throughout what has been a difficult year injury-wise for the Sharks.

The new contract for the 26-year-old, which was announced at the same time as he received a man of the match award for his game against the Panthers on Sunday at the post-match presentation, will see Tagataese remain in Sharks colours until at least the end of the 2015 season.

    Move on the cards ?

    Courier Mail:

THE fallout from the ASADA drugs scandal at Cronulla will be so severe that the Sharks will be forced to relocate, says News Corp and Fox Sports journalist Paul Kent.

The comments come after AFL club Essendon, also under investigation by ASADA, were on Tuesday night hit with a two million dollar fine, among other serious sanctions, for bringing the game into disrepute.

David Fifita, the twin brother of NSW State of Origin prop Andrew, may not have yet played an NRL match, but after just six weeks at Cronulla, he's earned a new deal for next season.

Showing the promise of something special in only six matches in the NSW Cup, Fifita will now attempt to transform his career during the upcoming preseason, just as brother Andrew did when he arrived at the club two years ago.

If the NRL is backed into corner over the Supposition in that "womans" report and are forced to do an AFL type cleanout there could be a few vacanciesin the pack for D Fifita next season

Fifth-placed Cronulla has received a big boost ahead of their do-or-die elimination Qualifying Final clash with North Queensland on Saturday afternoon with confirmation veteran hooker John Morris has signed a one-year extension to remain at the club in 2014.

In-form No.9 Morris, a veteran in his 13th season in the NRL, has been a mainstay of the Sharks’ side this year, one of only two Cronulla players to take the field in all 24 matches.

Morris, who says his side has the character, bond and playing strength to go deep into the finals series, hopes penning a new deal is just the start of the excitement he’ll experience in the month ahead.

The Cronulla Sharks have resurrected the NRL career of Dragons utility Matt Prior with a two-year deal announced yesterday.

Unwanted by the Dragons after a forgettable 2013 season, Prior faced the prospect of playing for his junior club Thirroul in the Illawarra Coal League before his link with the Sharks.

Prior has played prop, second row and centre since his debut for the Dragons.
