It may be that some clubs are just better at managing their cap than others.

As for the Dragons Doust and Milward need to inform fans and vested interest what is the real fiscal situation at the club.
The club owes the Nrl around $6 million and have had issues with the on going sale of the Steelers part of the club which has dragged on for ages.
Now with the loss of packer and the clubs best drawcard in Dugan it would appear we also have salary cap problems possibly due to paying overs for Hunt.
The way the Dragons are playing this season it would seem he is an unnecessary buy but seeing the club has signed him one has to hope he is a miracle worker

Meanwhile across the river the sharks seem to be spending money like water.
The question for the sharks is where will Dugan play?
Are they paying him FB money to play in the centres after Flanagan had come out and said Holmes is their FB for the next 10 years??.

Basically the Saints have lost their best player and been left with no stand out player to attract sponsor $$$.

Hardly their best player. One of them perhaps.

We will have a top team next season regardless of Duges.

We will have an average to good team next season....maybe.
The reason I list Duges as our top player is because....
He brings fans to their feet in expectation every time he touches the ball.
He is our best broken play runner
He is the best FB we have had in years
He is also a damn good centre or winger
He provides spark to our backline (especially now he has started to pass the ball).
    He can kick goals
He inspires sponsors to want to be associated with the club
His only drawback is he gives that much every time he plays he is injury prone but recovers well.
No other play in the Dragons side has that effect on our game.

Never the less other players will come along and fill the void. We have to hope Dufty fills the spot if he gets his chance.

I seem to remember your past comments about this season ... and we have Duges at the moment.

Having a top halves combo will do us a lot of good. We have a goal kicker. AND - we have replacements for him.

He is injury prone and is getting older - 28 (?) - $750k in 3-4 years is a lot of money.

I doubt he inspires many sponsors and/or draws them to us - perhaps the opposite - the behaviour and tatts.

He is a top player who we will miss. BUT - we will get over it very quickly.

We will have to agree to disagree about the sponsors but my feeling is if I was going to fork over big $$$ I would want to see at least one outstanding star player who will draw attention to the patch on the jersey when the media is covering a game or interviews.

His behaviour has been very good since he joined the Dragons and so has Packers for that matter. You have to hope he wont relapse over at the sharks which a number of players have.
More players have tatts these days than don't so tatts aside its his ability to play that draw attention as he is one of those players who create excitement by those watching who wonder what he will do with the ball each time he runs it.
Yes he is injury prone and I have always said that BUT he does recover quickly
He is 27 and will be 28 at the sharks so unless his body breaks down he has at least 5 yrs of top play left in his career.
All we can ask is that he continues to give his best for the rest of the season and other players will come along.
Meanwhile Doust and Co should explain why the club lost him.

Aaron Gray signed. You do wonder about the Cap.

Talks of Cronk as well. Even if they let their bloke go - Cronk will want a bit.

Yes he was brilliant at the Choccies and very solid at the Sharks. For someone with the health and injuries he has had he hand longevity in the game
